Ok, so I've had a look through a fare number of forums and a few docos, including the eastern arrow tuning and the flex-fletch mechanics of flight but the simple answer has not appeared for me....and my poor brain .... I might have missed the obvious, but if not....
What size vane should I be attaching to my X7 ali arrows?

It can probably be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it
General rule of thumb - the bigger the fletch, the more drag it will produce and the faster it will stabilise your arrow as it leaves the bow. This however will also greatly reduce the distance that you can shoot! You will see at indoor archery, where we don't shoot beyond about 25 metres big, high profile fletches, and in some instances feathers. Distance doesn't matter at all indoors though.
Smaller fletchings will create less drag, you will get more distance but compromise some stability (unless you shoot a fast bow).
In your case the bow will be slowish, you will want to use the arrows for general use ie indoors and outdoors so will want to maximise the distance you can get without compromising much in stability. Very small fletchings won't help you at all and overly large ones will affect your ability to shoot some of the middle distances outdoors (and will greatly increase wind drift).
If you went for a fletch around 2.25 inches in length you would probably be okay. If I was you I would probably go for the Arizona Plastifletch size EP23 (see this link alternativess.com/cgi-bin/htmlos.cgi/0059.5.5120760583413959835). This vane would be more than adequate for what you need.
Simple and Complicated - that's what I thought lol
The Drag/Stability/Distance dynamic makes sense. But having a place to start re length/size definitely helps.... ta
Cool - thats shaft model (X7), points, nocks and vanes sorted (and colours - most importantly!!!). Just got to measure my draw length with the new bow to select the shaft size (looks like for 28# the shaft size (for X7's) could be 1714 or 1814 depending on whether the draw length is 27" or 28" respectively, according to the eastern arrow chart....
Also, I read through the mana sites other arrow threads so will look to sort out the glue etc as well...so I can attack the fletching side of things...
