anyone know anything about selecting or the benefits of different scopes? I am thinking of either the Shibuya 29mm scope or either the Beiter 39mm or 29mm scope? any advice on magnification 0.5 or 0.75. I think the Shibuya comes in x4 or x6. the sight is a Shibuya 9" 520.

anyone know anything about selecting or the benefits of different scopes? I am thinking of either the Shibuya 29mm scope or either the Beiter 39mm or 29mm scope? any advice on magnification 0.5 or 0.75. I think the Shibuya comes in x4 or x6. the sight is a Shibuya 9" 520. Well I'm having trouble sleeping so I might as well go first. The diopter has something to do with the grind on the lens and refers to the lens' optical strength. The amount of magnification a given diopter will give you depends on the distance of your eye from the scope eg a 0.75 diopter at about 100cm roughly translates to about 4x magnification (very roughly and I'm bad at Maths). If you run a search for diopter magnification you should find some charts on the net that give rough examples what power different diopters relate to at different distances from your eye. When choosing the size of the scope housing/lens probably the easiest thing to remember is the bigger the housing, the more you can see of your target and the more light that is let in through the lens. The larger scope bodies have real benefit on field courses where light may not be optimal and you want a clear view of the target. The smaller 29mm scopes are perfectly satisfactory for target shooting (particular FITA rounds). What also needs to be remembered is if you have a larger scope housing then potentially you will have less/minimal clearance at the longer ranges unless you shoot a very fast bow. The Shibuya scope is pretty new on the market but by all accounts is meant to be an excellent scope with a top quality lens and very clear sight picture. You can also colour co-ordinate it ;D. The Beiter scope is also meant to be a very good scope, the real advantage with this is that its dots, rings etc are basically snap on rather than decals, and so they are easily interchangeable while you're working out whats best for you. The Shibuya CP520 sight itself is a very good sight (and I think the least expensive high end sight which is nice). I have personally ordered a 1 and 3/8th inch Specialty Scope with a 6x lens for my new bow. These are very good quality scopes at an affordable price. IMHO, for the price you pay you're not going to get much better than these. I should also add that there is a co-relation between the size peep you should use and the power lens you use in your scope. The higher the power of your lens, the smaller peep you will need for the image to be clear. If you are a field shooter however you cannot afford to go to low in peep size as this will not allow enough light in either. There is always a trade off. Hope that helps

thanks.
I think I will go for a .75 (x6) but still undecided between the two. both have good points
is a weather shield on the scope legal in FITA rounds?

Just remember that a 6 power scope shows more target shakes at 90 meters, but i found ideal for 30 meters, just a wee bit of a trade off. Also its important to remember that a clarifier can be inserted in the rear peep sight. Even more helpful

my hand only shakes after 3 double coffees, unlike the huntress who can drink it all day without shaking.

ah if coffee makes you shake then you just dont drink enough of it. i can drink long blacks all day till i go to bed and never shake or fail to sleep well.
just drink more coffee.
oh and a 0.75 diopter scope will make it seem like you shake at 90m
